Eurovision 2011 – Greek side

Ok, now you can blame me for watching this contest, but I kinda enjoy it sometimes. Not for the songs mostly, but for the whole show and internationalism 😉

Loukas Giorkas and Stereo Mike, Eurovision 2011, Greece

Nevertheless before the contest started this year I watched all the participating songs and was disappointed – most of them was total crap. Of course I also focused on what song Greece will send to represent it on Eurovision 2011 (56th Eurovision Song Contest). They had some cool songs, but in the end the winner was Loukas Giorkas (Greek: Λούκας Γιώρκας) and Stereo Mike (real name Mihalis Exarhos (Greek: Μιχάλης Έξαρχος)) with their song “Watch My Dance”. I didn`t like it at all in the beginning, but when yesterday I saw them perform on the stage in Dusseldorf – it was great! The show they made along with the song, with amazing Greek dancers…. Just cool!:) And if you watch the second half of the video below, they start to dancing something more or less traditional. I`d characterize it as a modern interpretation of “zeibekiko” dance (Greek: “ζεϊμπέκικο”). I liked it cos you could really feel that Greek passion they put into dance and songs!

By the way Loukas Giorkas is not Greek. He was born and raised in Larnaca, Cyprus. After school he was studying Biology at the University of Patras. He auditioned for Greek X FACTOR in 2008 and, what a surprise, he won! 🙂 After that he is singing with some popular Greek singers today: Elena Paparizou, Natasha Theodoridou, George Mazonakis, Dimitris Mitropanos and Peggy Zina.

Wanna see the song? Here you go 🙂

P.S. Hold your fingers crossed for Latvia tomorrow 14.05.2011 in Eurovision semi-final:)

UPD (14/05/2011). Wondering about the final results this year? 🙂 Latvia didn`t make it to the finals. Azerbaijan took the trophy home with 221 point and the song “Running Scared” performed by Ell and Nikki. Second place went to Italy and Sweden was third. During the voting at some point Greece was even in the leader position, but in the end Loucas Yiorkas and Stereo Mike took 9th place of Eurovision 2011 with 120 points. Congrats 🙂
